About Kitsch
Kitsch
/kit-ch/ • adj.
Considered to be in poor taste but appreciated in an ironic or knowing way.
Hi, we’re Kitsch! Kitsch is a lifestyle magazine for youths, featuring everything under the sun, from compelling stories about exciting plates of food, great music, fun-filled events and people from our sunny little island. We care about everything, from community cats to competitive sports and smudge-free lipstick.
Why “Kitsch”? We believe in creating a platform for both the bizarre and run-of-the-mill occasions in this country in a light-hearted and accessible manner. Our team at Kitsch works hard to bring you small bundles of joy, when life throws you more lemons than you can make lemonade. If anything, we just want you to have fun with our articles.
We believe that filters are for water coolers, not articles. Therefore, we seek to deliver that no-filter attitude in our articles. We know what you love, and what you will grow to love, which we will serve to you with all the juice AND the pulp. Kitsch is a magazine for the young, and the young at heart. We’ll always welcome you to try something new!
Editor's Note
Hello, my dear readers!
My name is Jaylee Soh, and I am the Editor of Kitsch, [pronounced “ki-ch”], a lifestyle magazine written and curated for youths, by youths. There is a “you” in the word “youths”, so go ahead, make a guess… I bet this magazine was written just for you.
Before the sinister reign of Covid-19, the Kitsch team would have hung out in real life with some nice, tall

glasses of iced coffee in a bustling hipster cafe, screaming over pitches and deadlines.

However, we currently live in troubling and strange times, so Kitsch was born from a mixture of video conferencing apps and Telegram chats as we stayed online to communicate with one another.
Even though we stayed home, I don’t remember an occasion when the Kitsch family stayed away from each other, and through these articles, I would like to share that same spirit of camaraderie with you.
Our stories lie where the heart is, and trust me, they’re worth your heartbeats and your time, so show our little monster here some love.
Also, we almost named the magazine The Paper Chase but print isn’t very eco-friendly. We’ve lost our marbles on multiple occasions during this project, but, we believe that it's all worth it, you know, so long as you enjoy Kitsch.
Happy reading!

Regards,

The Kitsch Team
Gabrielle Ang
Sub-editor
is the lively and outgoing Sub-editor of the team! Fun fact, she was the member who came up with our magazine’s name, “Kitsch”! When she’s not transcribing hour-long interviews, you’ll find her walking around decrepit old malls convincing herself these are learning experiences, mentaiko-flavored oddities, and most importantly, Kohler 349D Toilet Bowl.
GABRIELLE
Editor
Jaylee Soh
is the annoyingly quirky, small and “blur” member of the team and, of course, Kitsch’s reliable Editor! She makes sure the team is on task by texting in the group chat like a 45-year-old Mandarin teacher. In her free time, you’ll find her “binge watching” shows on Netflix, which to her means watching only the first and last 3 episodes of the drama.
JAYLEE
Noreen Shazreen
Head Sub-editor
is the cat lady of the team with four pet cats (and a cat allergy...). As Kitsch’s Sub-Editor, she works tirelessly editing all our articles. If she’s not spending her time watching rom coms and chick-flicks on Netflix, you can probably find her sitting at Starbucks with an iced black tea and a chocolate crumble muffin.
NOREEN
Visual Editor
Khoo Sin Yee
is our resident silver-haired girl, and the Visual Editor of Kitsch! With her partner-in-crime, Sasha, she designed Kitsch’s beautiful site while working on the freshest stories! A true nocturnal, you’ll find her working while everyone’s asleep. If you can’t reach her, she’s most likely laughing at TikTok videos.
SIN YEE
Sasha Ling
Designer
SASHA
is the easy-going Designer of the team! With Sin Yee, she came up with Kitsch’s vibrant visuals according to the team’s vision! If she’s not working on her designs, she’s probably making another playlist on Spotify. A bread-lover at heart, you'll find her hunting down the best bakeries in Singapore in her free time.
Zuriel Isaac
Sub-editor
is the cheerful and caring member of the team and Kitsch’s only male Sub-editor! Although he looks like a petty gangster, he is actually a good Christian boy who is well-liked by his peers. When he’s not working on new stories for Kitsch, he can be found playing with his beloved pet cat, Bobby.
